Fall Sports Recap Men's Soccer Record: 5-14-1 overall, 1-5-0 Big Ten The Wolverines ended the 2011 season the same way they began it: struggling to find consistent of- fensive output. Replacing a veteran lineup, the Wolverines posted shut- out losses in two of the first four games, but they settled down on that side of the ball, scoring at least once in the next 13 games. Michigan even led the Big Ten in shots per game (15.40), proving they could create chances and were learn- ing to make the most of them. But the Wolverines were shut out out in the last three games of the season, in- cluding a 2-0 loss to Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Women's Soccer Record: 9-8-2 overall, 4-6-1 Big Ten Staring down the stretch with a 9-5-2 record, the Wolverines had a terrific opportunity to finish strong in the Big Ten and reach the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. But three losses in the last three games — 1-0 to Ohio State, 4-0 to No. 14 Penn State and 3-2 to No. 20 Illinois — derailed that momentum. Without a conference tournament shot, the Wolverines were left with a sub-.500 record in conference and were excluded from postseason play. Volleyball Record: 20-12 overall, 8-12 Big Ten Halfway through the Big Ten slate, Michigan held a dismal 3-7 record against conference opponents and stood on the brink of missing the NCAA Tournament. But the Wolver- ines regrouped and posted a 5-5 re- cord down the stretch, including a 3-0 upset win over No. 16 Minnesota. Michigan is No. 2 in the Big Ten in kills (14.2 per set) and assists (13.23 per set). For navigating the best conference in volleyball, the team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where it was slated to play Baylor in the first round Dec. 2. Women's Cross Country The Wolverines placed 15th at the NCAA Championships, their best fin- ish at the event since 2006, after a strong second-place finish at the an- nual Big Ten meet. Senior Danielle Tauro led the way, finishing 45th with a time of 19:41.2. Michigan received helped from the middle of its lineup, too. Junior Jil- lian Smith, redshirt freshman Taylor Pogue and junior Rebecca Addison all finished in the top 120 at the event. Men's Cross Country Michigan capped off its remark- able finish with a 20th-place show- ing at the NCAA Championships. The Wolverines first turned heads at Big Tens, where they jumped from eighth place in 2010 to third this season, Michigan coach Alex Gibby's second year at the helm. The team hadn't qualified for the NCAA meet since 2008. Senior Craig Forys was Michigan's top finisher, taking 75th place with a time of 30:37.3. — Andy Reid BIG HOUSE NIGHT GAME PANORAMIC PRINT Michigan vs. Notre Dame Sept. 10, 2011 Michigan Stadium AVAILABLE FRAMED OR UNFRAMED: QTY.
