MICHIGAN IN THE PROS Chad Henne Takes Exception To Questions About Toughness BY CHRIS BALAS F ormer Michigan quarterback Chad Henne played through a third-degree shoulder separation during his senior season at Michi- gan, struggling through six weeks of pain for his teammates. It was un- derstandable, then, when he bristled as suggestions that he "packed it in" after undergoing surgery for a left shoulder injury suffered in an early October loss to San Diego. Former Michigan State and NFL quarterback Jim Miller, now a Chi- cago Bears television analyst, sug- gested to a South Florida radio sta- tion that Henne could have played through his injury. "I'll play through anything. I'm a tough guy and I just — it's a shame that that has to come out and people criticize you for [something] that they don't know about," Henne told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Coming out with that not knowing the injury, and really it's not knowing the person I am … I wanted to be gung-ho about this, and I'm gung-ho about this team and playing here and being all about the Dolphins. So it's just a shame that it has to come out." Henne said doctors found "other things that weren't good news" in repairing his injured shoulder, calling the injury "the most severe I've ever had." His future with the Dolphins, though, remains in doubt. The Dol- phins' former second-round pick is continuing rehab, but he still has a long road back. "It's going well. This is four weeks into the surgery, so not a lot is go- ing on right now," he said. "Obvi- ously, I'm still in a sling for another two weeks, so it's a slow process. But overall it's going well. It's more stretching at this stage than anything, so we're taking it slow and we need to take it slow. But I keep pushing." He also continues to watch film with the Dolphins' quarterbacks and remains visible in the team's facilities. "You're always wondering where you're going to be, what you're go- ing to do down here, but I'm just go- ing to rehab now, see what happens," he said. "Hopefully I get a chance to come back here. If not, my time will be done, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to come down here and play down here. We love it." NFL NOTES • Pittsburgh Steelers outside line- backer and former Wolverine LaMarr Woodley has missed three games with a hamstring injury suffered Oct. 30 against New England, but he's nearing a return. Woodley went through a full practice Henne started Miami's first four games this season and completed 64 of 112 passes for 868 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions.
