SEPTEMBER 2015 ■ 79 tourney and a handful of Rowan's other games this past year. "He is an excellent shooter, especially coming off screens," Wood said. "He is about as competitive as anybody that I've watched. He doesn't get rattled easily at all. He just moves on to the next play." Rowan's father, Ron, played for Notre Dame and St. John's in the mid-1980s, and the basketball pedigree comes through with his son's approach to the game. "He just understands how to play the game and stays very focused," Wood said. "Maverick has told me several times how fortunate he has been to have a father who has played the sport." Rowan averaged 17.4 points and 3.4 re- bounds per game in 19 contests with Each 1 Teach 1. He shot 46.5 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from three-point range and 71.1 percent at the free throw line. While playing for Ohio Basketball Club on the adidas circuit at the beginning of the spring, he averaged 12.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the field in five contests. He was an impressive 7 of 11 (63.6 percent) from three-point range and 19 of 26 (73.1 percent) at the free throw line. "Rowan is definitely a guy that I would classify as a streak shooter rather than a sure shooter," Bossi said. "He will go runs where he hits several in a row, but he's go- ing to have some 1 of 8 or 2 of 11 nights from three. In college, he'll get coached in shot selection." Rowan had 28 points and five rebounds to help the USA South win the Nike Global Challenge title game July 18 in Chicago. He averaged 15.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in the last four games, and shot 32.7 percent from the field and 27.6 per- cent from three-point land. Both Bossi and Wood said Rowan could guard different kind of players, but he'll have to adjust to the speed of college basketball. "His lateral quickness will need some work, and he'll also have to get stronger in the ACC, which is typical," Bossi said. "Defensively, I think he'll be more suc- cessful with bigger small forwards rather than smaller shooting guards." Rowan could also prove to be an enticing teammate if NC State lands other potential class of 2016 targets Dennis Smith Jr., a point guard from Fayetteville (N.C.) Trin- ity Christian, and Edrice Adebayo, a center from Pinetown (N.C.) Northside. Both ris- ing seniors are ranked among Rivals.com's top seven players nationally. "I think he'd fit well. Dennis Smith is an off the dribble penetrator, who wants to attack the rim, and also has improved his shooting a little bit," Bossi said. "He'd draw a lot of attention from defenses, who will be collapsing. "With Bam, he could draw double teams, so it's always good to have a shooter out there to prevent the defenses from sagging in." Rowan doesn't have any past relation- ships with the current NC State players and is looking forward to meeting them. "I want to first win an ACC title, and then hopefully, win a national champion- ship," Rowan said. "We are going to have to do a lot of work for that." ■ "He has great size, whether he is used as a big shooting guard or a small forward. This is a guy that can score points in a hurry for you." ■ Rivals.com recruiting analyst Russ Wood on Rowan GO PACK...WE HAVE YOUR BACK! DR. PERRY J.
