Notes From The Recruiting Trail • NC State lost a verbal commitment when three-star defensive tackle Kobe Smith from Law- renceville (Ga.) Archer High switched his pledge to Kentucky in late July. Smith had originally verbally committed to the Pack last January. He is expected to graduate early from Archer. • A pair of top junior quarterbacks visited NC State for the Alpha Wolf Showcase July 24, headlined by five-star Hunter Johnson from Brownsburg (Ind.) High. Johnson is listed by Rivals. com as the nation's top-ranked pro-style quarter - back in the 2017 class and the No. 4 overall player regardless of position. He also visited Tennessee in July and was ex- pected to trip to Notre Dame in August. Those three are believed to be Johnson's top trio. The 6-2, 185-pounder threw for 1,434 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Three-star signal-caller and former Miami com- mit Todd Centeio from West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer High also visited NCSU. He labeled the Pack as his new frontrunner since opening up his recruitment over the spring. Rivals.com lists Centeio (6-0, 195 pounds) as the No. 37 junior in Florida ands the No. 13 dual- threat quarterback in the 2017 class. • Two receivers from the state of Florida com - mitted to other schools could emerge as NC State targets this fall. Andrew Parchment is a 6-3, 180-pounder at Weston's Cypress Bay High, the same school that produced NCSU junior running back Matt Dayes. Parchment, who is rated as a two-star prospect, by Rivals.com, committed to Cincinnati in May, but he has received August offers from NC State and South Florida. Three-star Johnny Huntley (6-3, 190 pounds) from South Plantation High, made a verbal pledge to Colorado Aug. 4, but days later he told Rivals that he wants to visit NC State and Texas Chris - tian in the fall. He is rated as the No. 61 pros- pect in Florida's 2016 class and the No. 69 senior wideout nationally. He caught about 40 passes for around 900 yards and 12 touchdowns last year.
