UNDER THE DOME Nickname: "I have a few. Matty Ice, Matty, Uncle — because I'm the old guy." Dorm: "I live in a house off campus." Undergrad Major: "Film and Television." Favorite movie: "'Place Beyond The Pines.' It's a very good storyline that all comes together at the end." Favorite TV show: "I started watching 'Arrested Development' recently, just once every couple of days." Favorite aspect of playing for Notre Dame: "That's hard, there are so many great reasons. I'd say in short the tradition, we play for the best coaches, and compete with the best every day in practice and every week in games." Toughest player you've ever faced: "[Former Alabama running back] Eddie Lacy. He was pretty tough. He was just an angry man." Favorite music: "I'm a huge fan of Dave Matthews, reggae music, Bob Marley. I like rap. I pretty much like everything; I listen to country in the summer time." Getting To Know … FIFTH-YEAR DEFENSIVE BACK MATTHIAS FARLEY The injury bug that ravaged the Notre Dame defense last Novem- ber carried over this August with season-ending knee injuries to start- ing senior nose guard Jarron Jones (Aug. 14) and freshman cornerback Shaun Crawford (Aug. 19), who had moved into the No. 1 nickel back role. Jones suffered a third-degree me- dial collateral ligament (MCL) tear after he was rolled up in an 11-on-11 situation, and he had surgery on it several days later. "Kind of a freak deal," head coach Brian Kelly explained. "He was standing up. A guy fell down. It's just one of those things you can never prepare for." The affable Jones will remain around the team this fall and plans to travel with the Irish. He suffered a Lisfranc foot injury last season in the loss to Louisville Nov. 22 and missed all of spring practice. He started the first 11 games last year, and notched 40 tackles and 7.5 tack- les for loss. Sophomore Daniel Cage and freshman Jerry Tillery, an early en- rollee last January, are projected to take Jones' place, with junior Jacob Matuska also seeing some snaps. Tillery has showcased playmaking skills on occasion with his quick- ness off the snap, but the foremost priority is holding the point of at- tack in the middle, and the 6-6½, Jarron Jones And Shaun Crawford Sidelined For 2015 Season
