GAME PREVIEW: TEXAS BY JORDAN WELLS E very college football fan has heard the expression before: "If you have two quarterbacks, then you have no quarterbacks." If the phrase applies to Texas this year, then the Longhorns could be in for an offensive struggle when they travel to South Bend on Sept. 5. Texas head coach Charlie Strong has said both junior Ty- rone Swoopes — the incumbent starter from 2014 — and redshirt freshman Jer- rod Heard will see action in the season opener, but added one will emerge as the starter by game day. Heard has pushed Swoopes during the offseason with his superior running skills, but it looks like Swoopes could still land the starting nod. The junior finished with 2,409 passing yards and 13 touchdowns last season, but completed only 58.3 percent of his passes (224 of 384) and also threw 11 interceptions. A portion of his struggles stemmed from fighting through physical beatings by opponents. In a season-ending 31-7 New Offense, New Results? Texas will incorporate two quarterbacks and a new spread look in Charlie Strong's second season Last year as a sophomore, quarterback Tyrone Swoopes completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 2,409 with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
