portunity to redshirt a number of play- ers. There will likely be rookies saving a year of eligibility that might have challenged for significant roles during Kelly's early years. For example, wide receivers Jalen Guyton and Miles Boykin have both had strong camps. Boykin's combina- tion of size and speed is unique and Guyton has flashed ball skills as good as any player on the roster. In 2010 and 2011, both could have very well challenged for a starting role. Now, both could get a much-needed year of development. The same is true for offensive line- men Tristen Hoge and Trevor Ruh- land. For the second year in a row, offensive line coach Harry Hiestand is in position to redshirt all of his fresh- men, which is ideal for that position. Gilmore also has an opportunity to take things slowly with his first- years, at least those not named Jerry Tillery. Defensive tackle Micah Dew- Treadway has flashed a size and ath- leticism combination that would have earned him playing time a season ago. Classmates Brandon Tiassum and Eli- jah Taylor also need more seasoning, which each should be afforded the op- portunity to receive this fall. Rookie quarterback Brandon Wim- bush was Notre Dame's most highly regarded recruit from the class. Dur- ing fall camp he has shown off an elite arm, good running ability and a will- ingness to take coaching. Fortunately for Wimbush, junior Malik Zaire and sophomore DeShone Kizer have also had strong camps, which gives Kelly the flexibility to preserve a season of eligibility for Wimbush — at least for now. ✦ 2016 VINTAGE ND FooTbAll CAlENDArs BLUE AND GOLD ILLUSTRATED PO BOx 2331 • Durham, NC 27702 Visit our online store! www.BlueGoldOnline.com 1-800- 421-7751 Accepting Pre-orders Now!
