WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Star Team to a sweep of Kentucky's. Finally, in July as a late addition to Team USA, Patberg appeared in all seven games for the gold medalists and averaged 3.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Her efforts included 11 points and a team-high nine re- bounds in the round of 16 win versus Argentina, and then seven points and nine more boards versus Canada in the quarterfinals. Team USA defeated Russia in the final, 78-70. Patberg will have a chance to crack the starting rotation on next year 's team that will be led by forwards Re- imer and sophomore Brianna Turner, junior guard Lindsay Allen, senior guard Michaela Mabrey and graduate student and guard Madison Cable. "It has already helped a lot," Patberg told Masters of her international ex- perience. "The pace was a lot quicker here than what I have played before. And the knowledge of the game —- I have learned so much from all the coaches and all the players. I think my defense has gotten better since I have been here. … I have become a better student of the game." Patberg, Ogunbowale and Marina Mabrey — the MVP of the 2015 Mc- Donald's High School All-America Game — formed the nation's No. 3 recruiting class in 2015. DANIELLE GREEN HONORED WITH PAT TILLMAN AWARD On July 15, former Notre Dame guard and 1999 graduate Danielle Green was presented the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the annual ESPY Awards in Los Angeles. The award is named for former Ar- izona State University and Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman, who gave up his football career to en- list in the U.S. Army and later served in both Iraq and Afghanistan before being killed in the line of duty on April 22, 2004. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, Green suffered significant injuries in May 2004 during a grenade attack while serving in Baghdad, Iraq, with the 571st MP Company. Green, who lost her left hand, was one of the first female casualties during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Purple Heart recipient now works with returning veterans as a readjustment counselor in South Bend. "It's such an honor to receive an award named after Pat Tillman," Green said in her acceptance speech. "There are a lot of lessons people like Pat and I learned in sports and a lot of lessons we learned in the service. Maybe the most powerful lessons are the common goals, the loyalty, team- work, selflessness and commitment that individuals show one another. "If my story leaves you with one thing tonight, I hope it leaves you with a challenge. Ask yourself: What's my purpose? What's my passion? What do I want my legacy to be? How can I live as a full human being? "Not all of us are Pat Tillman, but we can all find ways to serve our com- munity. We can all find ways to sup- port the people around us. We can all find a purpose on this Earth larger than ourselves."
