FOOTBALL RECRUITING state in which Michigan has landed three of the top eight seniors, and is still gunning to add the top two. He's taken a more patient approach to his recruiting process and has yet to visit Ann Arbor. However, the Wolverines are in the mix along with Notre Dame, Ohio State, and UCLA (where older brother Devin recently wrapped up his career), among others. SEMPER FIDELIS ALL-AMERICAN BOWL JAN. 3 • CARSON, CALIF. 9 P.M. EST • FOX SPORTS 1 Two Michigan commits will par- ticipate in the Semper Fidelis Bowl, an All-America contest sponsored by the Marines. Camden (N.J.) High teammates Brad Hawkins Jr. and Ron Johnson will represent their current school and Michigan in Carson, Calif. Hawkins, a 6-2, 195-pound wide receiver, is the No. 231 overall pros- pect and No. 52 wide receiver nation- ally. He was limited by injury during his senior year, but in 10 games the four-star caught 34 passes for 378 yards (11.1 yards per reception) and five touchdowns, while rushing for 119 yards and four scores. His teammate comes in one spot behind him in New Jersey's state rankings, at No. 7 to Hawkins's No. 6, but his long-term potential might be just as good. Johnson is a four-star recruit, and while the 6-3, 221-pounder will have to add weight to succeed as a defensive end in col- lege, he has the aggressive mentality to round into form after a year build- ing mass. OFFENSE-DEFENSE ALL-AMERICAN BOWL JAN. 1 • DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. Michigan will boast two commit- ments in one of the up-and-coming All-America contests when offensive lineman Erik Swenson and athlete Chris Evans head to Daytona Beach, Fla. in early January. Swenson, a 6-5, 300-pounder, is rated as the second-best senior in Il- linois and the No. 223 overall prospect nationally. While his rankings have steadily dropped since he looked like a future five-star during his under- classman years, he has an opportunity to regain some of that with a strong showing at in Daytona Beach, Fla. The four-star had options from Alabama, Notre Dame and a dozen others when he picked the Maize and Blue. Indianapolis Ben Davis three-star Chris Evans is a 5-11, 181-pounder ca- pable of playing running back, slot re- ceiver, or defensive back when he gets to Ann Arbor. The sixth-best senior in Indiana will play tailback at the O-D game, and could show that his ex- plosive speed (he's been timed in the 4.4-second range in the 40-yard dash) is something that Michigan's coaches will be able to put to good use. Some uncommitted targets — three- stars Keyshon Camp, Quinn Nordin and Jacob Mathis — will also partici- pate in the game. Camp, a defensive tackle commit- ted to USC, took two visits to U-M this fall, for an official visit to the UNLV game Sept. 19, and again for an unofficial to the Wolverines' loss to
