The NHL AL MONTOYA TRADED TO EDMONTON The Edmonton Oilers acquired former Michigan goalie Al Montoya from Montreal in January, picking the 32-year-old up after he recovered from a concussion. He hadn't played since Nov. 4 in Winnipeg and was 2-1-0 with a 3.77 goals-against aver- age this season for Montreal. Montoya, generally a career backup, is 65-47-22 with a 2.63 goals- against average in 159 career NHL games. "It was quick," he told The Edmon- ton Sun of the trade. "But I look at it as another opportunity. I know I have a lot to give, and I'm excited." He saw his first action in relief dur- ing a 5-1 loss to Dallas Jan. 6, stop- ping 13 of 14 shots. "It was a long road back," he said. "I haven't had much time to skate, but I feel good, which goes a long way. "I was excited to get back in there and start playing hockey again. It was a tough outcome, but for myself it was a big plus." He is expected to return at the end of January. He was the team's best faceoff man, winning 59.4 percent of his draws, and was a key part of the Wings' penalty kill. Tim Hardaway Jr. • NBA Hardaway scored 31 points to help the Knicks rally for a 117-115 victory over the Utah Jazz Jan. 19. It was his first start after missing a month and a half with a leg injury. The fifth-year guard was 6 of 7 from behind the arc. Zach Werenski • NHL The Montreal Gazette reported the Canadiens will be sellers at the Feb. 26 trade deadline due to their poor record (19-22-6 as of Jan. 22), and Pacioretty, the team captain, will be on the block. "It's frustrating," he said. "I know that with wearing the 'C' they're going to point the finger at me first and I understand that comes with the territory."
