90 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2014 FOOTBALL PREVIEW QB PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Doug Nussmeier, in his first sea- son with the Wolverines, is entering his 14th year as a coach. He is Michi- gan's new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He comes to Ann Arbor after two years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama, where he led an offense that set single-season program records for rushing touchdowns, passing touchdowns, total points and total offense on the Crimson Tide's way to the 2012 NCAA national champion- ship. In 2013, Alabama averaged more than 200 yards per game both on the ground and through the air. In addition to mentoring former Alabama and current NFL quarterback A.J. McCarron, Nussmeier was instrumental in the development of Washington quarterbacks Keith Price, now of the Seattle Seahawks, and Jake Locker, now of the Tennessee Titans, and Michigan State quarterbacks Drew Stanton, now of the Arizona Cardinals, and Jeff Smoker, who spent two seasons in the NFL. Before coming to Michigan, he was the offensive co- ordinator/quarterbacks coach at Alabama (2012-13), the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Washington (2009-11), the offensive coordinator at Fresno State (2008), the quarterbacks coach of the St. Louis Rams (2006-07) and the quarterbacks coach at Michigan State (2003-05). He also spent two years as a quarterbacks coach in the Canadian Football League (BC Lions, 2001, Ottawa Renegades, 2002).
