96 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2014 FOOTBALL PREVIEW RB PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Fred Jackson has coached for 23 years with U-M as the program's man in charge of the running backs. He served six seasons as assistant head coach (1997-2002) and was associate head coach for five years (2003-07). He also served as the offensive coordinator from 1995-96. Under Jackson's tutelage, three Wolverine running backs have been selected in the first round of the NFL Draft — Tyrone Wheatley (17th overall pick in 1995), Tim Biakabutuka (eighth in 1996) and Chris Perry (26th in 2004). Jackson has coached 12 U-M backs that have gone on to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in a season. Jackson also coached five seasons at Wisconsin (1982- 86), serving as the Badgers' offensive coordinator, quar- terbacks coach and wide receivers coach during his years in Madison. He began his collegiate coaching career in the Mid- American Conference as offensive coordinator, quarter- backs coach and wide receivers coach at Toledo from 1979-81. Ht.: 5-11 • Wt.: 227 Career Highlights: Appeared in all 13 games, including one start, in 2013 … Racked up 82 carries for 275 yards (3.2 yards per attempt) and two touchdowns … Made career debut in the season-opening game against Central Michigan, rush- ing 11 times for 58 yards and a score, including a season- long 30-yard run … Posted a season-high 19 carries for 79 yards at Northwestern.
