INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS vorite venue in particular, but any one that is outdoors where the climate is warm enough for it, I really like those." Favorite professional athlete: "I'd say Tony Azevado. He's the captain of the men's Olympic water polo team. I personally know him and he's taught me a lot that I know about the sport, so I look up to him." Role model: "Definitely my mother, Debbie. My mom and I are really close. She helps me through everything that I do. She's on the phone with me at five in the morning when I'm walking to practice in the freezing cold weather and I talk to her before bed every night." Why she chose water polo over football: "I actually did a presentation on this last year. I chose water polo because of how tough it is. It's much tougher than football. The football players get all those TV breaks and in between plays they just stand around. In water polo you are constantly tread- ing water and there's always someone hanging onto you trying to drown you. I like it because of how hard it is." What she hopes to do after water polo at Michigan: "I really want to see Europe. One of the former Michigan players, Allison Mantel, went to Europe for a year and played water polo there and I think that would be really cool to do. Eventually I will work for my parents' company, Totally Furniture — it's an online shopping mall. I've been working there for the past five or six years during the summer. I've been doing internships there too since I'm in the business school." Her overall U-M experience: "Mich- igan has been unexpected for me. I took a recruiting trip here when it was warm, so I wasn't really expecting the cold and snow, but the lifestyle and the people here are just amazing. School can be tough at times, but it's well worth it." — Brandon Brown Martin established career highs with 19 goals and 13 assists as a sophomore in 2014.
