UNDER THE DOME
after playing in the slot
last season. Prosise, who
was slowed by a hip
flexor injury the second
week of practice, rushed
for 75 yards in the Music
City Bowl, highlighted
by a 50-yard touchdown,
and was the top rusher
in the Blue-Gold Game
with 64 yards on 12 car-
ries.
The departure of Bry-
ant prompted the move
of sophomore receiver
Justin Brent to running
back this August. Brent
played running back as
a high school senior in
Indianapolis, rushing
for 1,315 yards and 18
touchdowns.
Also joining the com-
petition as potential
third back options are
freshmen Josh Adams
and Dexter Williams.
MEDICAL LEAVES
Prior to the start of
August training camp,
Notre Dame also an-
nounced that two of
B r y a n t ' s c l a s s m a t e s ,
Heuerman and Deeb,
were placed on medical
hardship. That means
because their football
careers are no longer
possible due to medical
conditions, they can still
attend Notre Dame and
receive their degrees, but
on the university's tab,
not on a football scholar-
ship. Former defensive
lineman Tony Spring-
mann went through the
same process last year.
Two hernia surgeries
severely inhibited Heu-
erman's ability to make
a dent at tight end, as
his weight remained
consistently around 225
pounds, and he did not
see any game action ei-
ther of his first two sea-
sons. Five other tight
ends were projected to
play ahead of him, led
by junior classmate Dur-
ham Smythe.
