FOOTBALL RECRUITING least four high-profile official visitors on campus for the season opener under the lights, but the headlining act will be Sa- vannah (Ga.) Christian School five-star athlete Demetris Robertson, should he make it to South Bend as planned. Robertson, who is ranked as the No. 1 player in Georgia and the No. 7 overall recruit nationally by Rivals, was at one time committed to Alabama, but he de- cided to reopen his recruitment in April and explore all of his options. "He doesn't play that weekend, so we're trying to work the visit around that," Robertson's brother and guardian, Carlos Robertson, said. "Notre Dame is recruiting him real hard. [Assistant coach] Scott Booker is his recruiter for the area, and he's working with [assis- tant coach] Autry Denson. "They are sending the kitchen sink after him." The 6-0, 180-pound Robertson has the skill set to play both cornerback and wide receiver at the next level, and the Irish are open to using the U.S. Army All-American on either side of the ball if they are able to beat out Georgia and Stanford for his signature. While Robertson will likely be the prospect with the most stars next to his name in the stands, one could argue that he won't be the most important prospect on hand, given the roster needs this cycle. That would instead fall to the trio of defensive backs expected to visit. Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven four- star cornerback Donte' Vaughn, Bell- flower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star safety D.J. Morgan and Elk Grove (Ca- lif.) Franklin four-star safety Lamar Jackson have all made plans to be in town for the Texas game, and each one of them could fill a need. Vaughn, who is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in Tennessee by Rivals, is be- ing recruited as a cornerback because of his length at 6-2 and 195 pounds. The coaches would like to pair him oppo- site of current cornerback commit Julian Love. "I have actually seen everything ex- cept the stadium on gameday, and I'm excited to see how it goes," Vaughn said. "I talk to [defensive backs coach] Todd Lyght a couple of times a week, and he has done it all. From school to the NFL, he has just been through a lot. He was a first-round draft pick, and I think that he can help me out." Vaughn isn't expected to make any type of decision until his birthday Oct. 12, but admits that Notre Dame is high on his list. While he would give the Irish another quality corner- back prospect, which they des- perately need this cycle, that same can be said about Mor- gan and Jackson, who both have the talent to contribute PLANNED VISITORS FOR NOTRE DAME-TEXAS GAME As of Aug. 24 Lamar Jackson, S, Elk Grove (Calif.) Franklin Four-star prospect and No. 87 overall player nationally D.J. Morgan, S, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco Four-star recruit and No. 47 prospect in California Demetris Robertson, ATH, Savannah (Ga.) Christian School Five-star prospect and No. 7 overall player nationally Donte' Vaughn, CB, Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven Four-star recruit and No. 5 prospect in Tennessee
