FOOTBALL RECRUITING
BY ANDREW IVINS
O
ver the past few years, Notre Dame
has hosted its fair share of recruits
for official visits on gameday weekends.
The Irish welcomed large groups of
prospects for the Stanford and Louisville
games last season. The year before that it
was the USC weekend that served as the
showcase recruiting event.
This fall, though, will be a little dif-
ferent.
Notre Dame recruiting coordinator
Mike Elston said at the annual media
day in mid-August that he plans to host
more recruits for official visits than ever
before, and the Texas game Sept. 5 will
mark the first weekend that he imple-
ments that strategy.
"We want them to come up here and
see what we have," Elston said. "It's so
different and so unique than anywhere
else that they have been."
