FOOTBALL RECRUITING ease. As he gains more experience and fills out, his game will take off. He is also versatile, possessing the ability to play cornerback, safety or wide receiver at the next level. TROY PRIDE Greer, S.C. Greer High School Measurables: Listed at 6-0 and 165 pounds by Rivals … Won the South Carolina 3A state champion- ship in the 400-meter dash last spring with a time of 48.02, more than one second better then the runner-up … Finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.89 … Has a personal best of 10.54 in the 100-meter dash. Rankings: Listed as a three-star prospect by Rivals, ESPN and Scout … 247Sports ranks him as the No. 3 player in South Carolina, the nation's No. 23 corner- back and No. 247 overall player. Statistics/Honors: Finished his junior season with 34 tackles and four interceptions. Recruitment: Despite Pride's commitment to Vir- ginia Tech, Notre Dame has continued to stay in touch and he continues to listen … Has talked about making a visit to South Bend, but that trip has yet to be scheduled. BGI's Take: Pride's track times are impressive, but what makes him such an intriguing football recruit is that he also plays extremely fast on the field. He shows off his speed as a returner and offensive player, and as a defender. He possesses very good foot quickness and agility, which he combines with relatively loose hips to excel at the sudden move- ments needed to be a top-notch cover player. At times, his feet get narrow, which slows down his transitions, but that is a correctable technique issue. He has good length for a cornerback, but he needs to fill out his frame and be more physical. When his technique is sound, he has the speed and agility to be a dynamic cover player. As he learns to harness his athleticism, he could become as good as any defender on this board. ✦ Greer (S.C.) High's Troy Pride — who has given a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech — won the Palmetto State's 3A state title in the 400-meter dash last spring and might be the fastest cornerback prospect on Notre Dame's recruiting board.
