120 ■ THE WOLFPACKER Top Five Wins For 2009 Class 1. 17-16 vs. Florida State, 2012: NC State was down 16-0 at halftime to the third-ranked team in the country a week after a deflating last-minute 44-37 loss at Miami. The second half was a complete turnaround for the Pack. Receiver Quintin Payton caught six passes for 79 yards, and tight end Asa Watson added four receptions for 38 yards. More importantly, both made fourth-down receptions that moved the chains on the final game-winning drive. 2. 37-13 vs. Clemson, 2011: The Tigers had already clinched an ACC title game berth when they rolled into Raleigh and would go on to win the conference championship two weeks later. That did not matter to NC State, which steamrolled seventh-ranked Clemson. Running back James Washington led the ground attack with 86 yards on 22 carries, and safety Brandan Bishop added a team-high nine tackles, one for a loss, and picked off a pass in the end zone. Defensive end Darryl Cato-Bishop contributed a pair of sacks. 3. 13-0 vs. North Carolina, 2011: The Pack would extend its winning streak over UNC to a school-record-matching five games with the first shutout of the Tar Heels since 1960. Washington rushed 27 times for 110 yards. Cato-Bishop sealed the win late in the fourth quarter with an interception off a deflected pass, and defensive lineman Brian Slay added a sack in the shutdown defensive effort. 4. 56-41 vs. Maryland, 2011: NC State trailed 41-14 after Davin Meggett ran for a 46-yard touchdown run with 10:50 left in the third quarter. What followed was six unanswered touchdowns by NC State in the second-greatest conference-game comeback in ACC history. Washington ran 20 times for 90 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 17 yards. Bishop led the defense with 10 tackles, one for a loss, and recovered two fumbles, including a crucial one in the fourth quarter of the furious comeback. Cato-Bishop assisted on a sack. 5. 23-7 vs. West Virginia, 2010: The Pack cruised to a 23-7 win over the Mountaineers in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. Washington was State's leading rusher, picking up the load from an injured Mustafa Greene and running 18 times for 62 yards. Defensively, Bishop had five tackles and a highlight-worthy interception. Defensive linemen Natanu Mageo and Slay both made a tackle for a loss.
