146 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING things very seriously. All the schools that I've seen are great." NC State's 2011-12 team featured point guard Alex Johnson of Toronto, and the Wolfpack are no stranger in pursuing Cana- dian talent. Florida State redshirt freshman combo guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes also considered NC State. In Nike Elite Youth Basketball League action (10-6 record) Murray is averaging 11.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, while shooting 44.9 percent from the field, 39.5 from three-point range and 77.1 from the free throw line. "He is a coach on the floor, understands the game very well and is athletic. He can score whenever he wants, but is a willing passer," CIA Bounce traveling team coach Tony McIntyre said. "He understands the game too well at point guard to not control the tempo and pace. He puts guys in position to score." Kobi Simmons Is The Latest Star Point Guard From Georgia Alpharetta (Ga.) St. Francis junior point guard Kobi Simmons brings great height and length to the position at 6-5 and 180 pounds. Simmons has learned about being a taller point guard by talking to former NC State point guard Lorenzo Brown, who spent the majority of his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers last year. Brown, who at- tended Roswell (Ga.) Centennial High, has known the Simmons family for a long time. Gottfried gave Simmons a call June 15 and offered him a scholarship. The Wolf- pack have been watching him for nearly a year between his play with the Atlanta Celt- ics traveling team and St. Francis. "Coach Gottfried told me how NC State wants me there," said Simmons, 16. "He of- fered me a full-ride scholarship. He told me a little bit about what I need to know about NC State, and how I should get on campus soon and take a [unofficial] visit." Simmons hasn't watched NC State much since Brown left, but he looks forward to learning more about the program. "Lorenzo is like my cousin," Simmons said. "I've known him since he was young, and he played with my dad's team. I've been told that I play like him. I guess that is what people see." Simmons' phone blew up as soon as mid- night came June 15, which is when college coaches can call and text class of 2016 pros- pects.
