2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE MEASURABLES • Has a listed 40-yard dash time of 5.83. • Had a bench-press max of 315 be- fore the start of his senior season. STATISTICS • A four-year varsity player at Mary- land powerhouse Gilman, which fin- ished 2015 ranked 13th nationally by USA Today's experts and 17th ac- cording to their computer rankings. MaxPreps.com listed the school 17th in its expert rankings and 19th in its computer rankings. • During his senior season while play- ing right tackle, Spanellis was part of a unit that allowed just six sacks and plowed the way for 395 yards of of- fense per game, including 272 rush- ing per contest. Gilman finished the season 10-1. • Gilman ended his junior season 8-3, losing the first two games of the season to national powers Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward and Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, along with the last game of the season to Owings Mills (Md.) Mc- Donogh. • Gilman finished just 7-4 during Spanellis' 10th-grade season. • In his freshman year, Gilman went 9-2 and finished the season ranked No. 51 in the nation by MaxPreps.com. HONORS • Named to the USA Today All-USA Maryland first team after his senior year. • Following his final campaign, Span- ellis was named to the Maryland Con- sensus All-State football team, repre- senting the top 30 vote-getters from the Big School, Small School and Pri- vate School all-state teams. • Spanellis was a 2014 and 2015 Pri- vate School first-team all-state selec- tion, as voted on by the media. ALL-STAR GAME AND CAMPS • Played in the Offense-Defense All- American Bowl in Daytona Beach, Fla., Jan. 1, 2016 and was part of the Na- tional squad that lost 37-34 on a last- second field goal by Team American. RECRUITMENT • Visited Miami (Fla.), Boston College, Northwestern and Virginia. • Returned from Charlottesville and two weeks later, on June 30, he named Virginia his leader. Later that same day, he committed to the Cavaliers. • His recruitment was quiet for a while until Michigan offered him on Dec. 31. • Upon receiving his Michigan offer, he quickly set up an official visit to Ann Arbor for Jan. 15.
