2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE MEASURABLES • Ran a hand-timed 40-yard dash in the 4.5-second range. • Bench presses 225 pounds and squats 415. STATISTICS • During his senior campaign, had 56 tackles and was used more as a blitzer, resulting in eight tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Added six pass break-ups. • Helped lead Flanagan's "No Fly Zone" defense to a Florida Class 8A (largest in the state) championship as a senior, the first in school history. • Recorded 43 tackles, with two for loss, and defended five passes as a junior. • Posted 90 tackles, including one for a loss, and four pass break-ups in his sophomore campaign. • Three-year starter at Flanagan. HONORS • First-team Associated Press 8A All- State in his final campaign. • Miami Herald first-team All-Broward County as a senior. ALL-STAR GAMES AND CAMPS • Participated in Rivals Camp Series Miami in February 2015. • Attended Nike's The Opening Re- gionals in Miami in 2015. RECRUITMENT • Committed to Michigan June 17, 2015. • Also held offers from Colorado (of- ficial visit Dec. 12), Miami (Ohio), Geor- gia Southern and Middle Tennessee State, among others. • Pledged to Michigan on the same day as Flanagan teammate Devin Gil, and classmate Devin Bush Jr. followed suit Dec. 16, 2015. NOTABLE • Joshua Gens Metellus was born Jan. 21, 1998 in Miami. • Also participates in track in the spr ints and hurdle events, and wrestled three years at the 182- and 195-pound weight classes. 2016 PROJECTION • Metellus has potential at the safety position, but Michigan has returning starters (including seniors Delano Hill and Dymonte Thomas) and contribu- tors this fall. A redshirt is likely while he continues to learn technique and the U-M defense. However, playing time should be available following the graduation of multiple players after the 2016 season.
