2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE BY TIM SULLIVAN M ichigan graduated only one of- fensive lineman after the 2015 season — starting center Graham Glasgow, who will go on to an NFL career. That may give the impression that a smaller offensive line group was in the cards for the 2016 class. How- ever, a Jim Harbaugh offense is going to be solid up front, and that means landing plenty of talented blockers and letting them compete for spots. That makes it something of a dis- appointment that only three players at the position group will end up in the class — especially when five were committed at one point, before the Wolverines cut four-star Erik Swen- son loose (he signed with Oklahoma) and fellow four-star Devery Hamilton decommitted to head to Stanford. The three players that Michigan landed, however, are about as exciting as they come. Hartland (Wis.) Arrowhead guard/ tackle Ben Bredeson is the headliner of the bunch — he's listed the No. 2 guard and No. 60 overall prospect nationally — while Detroit Cass Tech guard Michael Onwenu isn't far behind. He finished ranked No. 7 among offensive guards and No. 147 overall. The lowest-ranked of the trio was another tackle/guard combo in Baltimore Gilman three-star Stephen Spanellis.
