2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE BY JOHN BORTON M ichigan football signees have never witnessed anything like this. Then again, neither have the new arrivals anywhere else in the country. They billed it as the "Signing of the Stars," a combination Michigan football pep rally, Academy Awards show and ESPN SportsCenter spe- cial. Fans packed venerable Hill Au- ditorium to the rafters. On one side of the stage for the National Signing Day blowout Feb. 3 stood the SportsCenter-like set, with former NFL head coach Mike Shanahan, former Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz and ESPN's Todd McShay breaking down film of Michigan's 28-member class, shown on a huge screen at center stage. On the other side, host Randy Sklar kept the action lively, mov- ing through an astounding array of guests, including Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, John Harbaugh, and a conga line of guest presenters such as Des- mond Howard, Denard Robinson, Star-Spangled Signing day Michigan Welcomes The Class Of 2016 With A Bang Paramus (N.J.) Catholic five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary became the headliner of Michigan's No. 4-ranked class when he picked the Wolverines over Clemson, Ole Miss, Auburn, LSU and Alabama on National Signing Day.
