2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio took a bit of a shot when he said with a grin, "We try not to have too much flair …" As it turned out, however, Flair was one of the highlights of the event. The pro wrestling legend may have stumbled through the names of four-star cornerback Lavert Hill and three-star safety Josh Metellus, but there was no hesitation in his love for Michigan. Flair revealed that, prior to gaining fame and fortune as a wrestling star, he had committed to play football for the Wolverines under Bump Elliott, who preceded Bo Schembechler as coach. "To be the man, you've got to beat the man," Flair yelled, pulling out one of his most well-known phrases. "And right now, the University of Michigan is the man!" Flair called it one of the most hum- bling experiences in his career, joking that alone was an accomplishment. By the time the event ended, Rob- inson echoed what most people in the building — and throughout the country who were watching via live stream on The Players' Tribune web- site — were thinking. "It was crazy," he said. "During the pre-trial runs, the whole thing, it was different — like, 'How is this supposed to go?' When you finally see it you're like, 'This is comfortable … a great idea.' It was almost like draft day. You had guys announc- ing, breaking down highlights, Todd McShay breaking you down just like the draft — and coming to Michigan is like being drafted. "When I was being recruited, I was more low profile, under the radar.
