2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE Now guys want to be announced by Tom Brady, Ric Flair, Derek Jeter. Of course, you're going to feel wel- comed when it's by somebody like that. They're celebrities and only 18 years old. There's so much ahead of them. Coming to Michigan is going to be a great opportunity for them." Harbaugh is "not afraid to think outside the box," Howard added with a laugh. "This is a perfect example of how Jim Harbaugh's mind operates," he continued. "Back in the day we had cassette players and cassette tapes. It's like night and day, nothing even remotely close from 1987 to how it is now in 2016. It's a new day and age … a new era." The next step will be taking it to another level, though Robinson was quick to note, "I'm not sure how you compete with this next year." Odds are Harbaugh will find a way. He usually does, and his finger- prints were all over this year's event. "There really aren't that many ac- tual rules — outside of compliance, of course," Mills said. "He under- stands that we should all try to take risks and be adventurous. You can see it in everything he does, and we saw it in this event too. "He just contributed a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He just said, 'Make this bold, make this different; make this something unique.' And I think we gave him that at almost every turn." At one point, Holtz even inter- rupted to say, "You might be the only one doing one of these this year, but I Michigan's early enrollees, including Boulder (Colo.) Fairview defensive end Carlo Kemp, received the red-carpet treatment at the Signing of the Stars event. PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL
