2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE South Carolina and Northwestern. • Was recruited by Michigan passing game coordinator/wide receivers and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch. • Took his official visit to Michigan on Dec. 11, 2015. • Visited Miami on Jan. 15, 2016 and Notre Dame on Jan. 22. NOTABLE • Caught two touchdown passes in the 2015 Class 5A state championship game. The title was a first for Indepen- dence in that classification. • Became only the third Power Five conference commit from Independence since Rivals.com began charting (2002), along with Vic Wharton (Cal) and 2014 Missouri signee Finis Stribling IV. 2016 PROJECTION • Shows explosiveness and good hands, making him someone who looks like a perfect fit for the slot receiver spot. His speed and quickness could give line- backers and safeties fits on the interior of a defense, and he'll certainly get a look there. THEY SAID IT • Passing Game Coordinator/Quar- terbacks and Receivers Coach Jedd Fisch: "We discovered Nate later on in the recruiting process and are thrilled that he is going to part of this class. He is a slot receiver and a returner. He has the ability to play outside, but I see him playing inside at the outset. "He is one of those guys who can make every catch, even the acrobatic catches. He is a 5-11, 180-pound wide receiver, very similar to a [sophomore wideout] Grant Perry in terms of body size, skill set and production in high Johnson ranked fifth in the nation during the 2015 season with 1,713 receiving yards.
