LLOYD CARR NAMED TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF COMMITTEE Former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr (1995‑2007) has been named to the College Football Playoff committee for a three‑year term beginning in 2016. The committee, chaired by Ar‑ kansas athletics director Jeff Long, saw four openings with the depar‑ tures of Pat Haden, Mike Gould, Mike Tranghese and Tom Osborne coming off the roster, and filled them with Carr, former Central Michigan coach Herb Deromedi, former Southern Mississippi coach Jeff Bower and current Oregon athletics director Rob Mullens. Carr enjoyed a long and distin‑ guished coaching career, culminat‑ ing in the 1997 national title with the Wolverines. After coaching at three Michigan high schools, he be‑ gan a college career as an assistant at Eastern Michigan in 1976. He spent two years at Illinois (1978‑79) before coming to Michi‑ gan as an assistant under Bo Schembechler in 1980. Carr served as Michigan's defensive coordina‑ tor from 1987‑94 and took over as U‑M's head coach in 1995. He guided the Wolverines to a 122‑40 record over 13 seasons, win‑ ning five Big Ten championships.
