2016 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE Top Five Recruiting Classes Of The Rivals Era Rivals.com began ranking recruiting classes in 2002. From then to now, Michigan has found itself among the nation's top 10 on six different occasions, including its best finish (No. 4) this season. Of course, where a class gets ranked on National Signing Day and where it winds up several years down the road are two entirely different matters. Here is a look at our top five Michigan classes over that span, based on production. 1. 2004 — It's tough to beat this group, ranked at the time as the No. 8 class in the nation. It produced Chad Henne, Michigan's all-time leading passer with 9,715 yards on 1,387 completions. Henne became the first, and still only, fresh- man quarterback in Big Ten history to lead his team to a conference champion- ship and the Rose Bowl. The crew also produced modern-era Michigan rushing leader Mike Hart, who scrambled for 5,040 yards over the course of his career.
