MICHIGAN HOCKEY Getting To Know Sophomore Defenseman Cutler Martin A strong defensive defenseman, the 6-0, 211-pound sophomore from East Lansing has contributed seven goals and 17 assists with a plus/minus of plus-23 in 56 career games through Feb. 15. Nickname: "The guys call me 'Marty.' One of my old coaches called me 'Brick' back in the day when I played for Compuware. When some of the guys here asked me about a nickname, I told them, and a few have taken to it." Favorite Academic Class: "Economics 101 and Economics 102. I've decided to pursue an economics major. Those classes have really in- terested me, and they will be really applicable for life. I'm excited to learn about it." Best Meal He Can Cook: "Fettuccini Alfredo and lobster. I like to cook." Favorite Restaurant: "The Ann Arbor Chop House is solid. If I had to pick something not as fancy, Frita Batidos is a little burger place that I really like." Movie He'd Give Two Thumbs Up To: "'The Revenant' was good and I liked 'Concussion.' Both of them were solid." TV Show: "'Friends.'" Hockey Idol: "Shea Weber. That's someone I as- pire to be like. He's tough, mean, and he knows how to shoot the puck. He's a great player." Other Sports He Enjoys: "I like lacrosse, but tennis is my favorite sport besides hockey. I played all the way through high school, and we won a state title." Best Venue He's Played In (Besides Yost): "I really thought it was fun to play at Minnesota's rink. It's a big arena, and last year when we played there, it was a big rivalry game. It's exciting to show up to a rink with a big-game atmosphere, with a large and loud crowd." His U-M Experience: "It's been absolutely fantastic. As far as the education goes, it's second to none. As far as the hockey goes, it's the best in the country. They give us everything we need to be successful. The support staff has been outstanding, and the coaches have been great. All in all, I've had a great experi- ence so far, and I'm really looking forward to my next two years." — Michael Spath Through 56 career games, Martin boasted a plus/minus of plus-23.
