Reed is now coaching cornerbacks for Clemson. In the 2012 class, Reed was able to unearth a hidden gem in Newark (Del.) High tight end David J. Grinnage, who had no other Football Bowl Subdivision offers when NCSU tendered one. Reed was also the lead recruiter for the duo of defensive end Kendarius Whitehead and safety Jarnor Jones, teammates at Martin Luther King High in Lithonia, Ga. Neither reached their full potential at NC State, but the Wolfpack signed Whitehead in a hotly contested recruiting battle with national powers Clemson and Georgia, and Reed had to fend off a late charge from Kentucky to land Jones, who would eventually transfer to Iowa State and receive a chance to play in the NFL.
