JULY 2017 ■ 153 ■ Best Recruiting Class NC State hired a new men's soccer coach in George Kiefer, who had a successful 15- year tenure at South Florida, leading the Bulls to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances before arriving in Raleigh. Kiefer may be set up to have similar suc- cess for the Pack if he continues to bring in recruiting classes like the first one he signed. TopDrawerSoccer.com has the class ranked No. 9 nationally. "Typically I'm not too excited about re- cruiting rankings, but I'm impressed with my assistants in that most programs work for two years to put together a class, and we've just had a few months," Kiefer said. "I'm really excited about the future, and I'm learning how many top players from this country want to play in the ACC. It's also refreshing to have one of the best youth clubs in the country right in our backyard." That youth club, the Capital Area Rail- hawks Academy, provided the class with three signees, including two ranked in the TopDrawerSoccer.com top 150: forward Emanuel Perez (No. 33) and defender Mac Gourlay (No. 105). Perez had a stint in the spring with the U-18 US National Team, and scored a goal in a 1-1 draw with Hungary, plus played a full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Belarus.
